Our Story
A Mother's Love. A Daughter's Legacy.
The Mandla Foundation was born out of deep love and unimaginable loss. Founded by Mireille Zatcha in memory of her daughter Mandla, the Foundation carries on the radiant spirit of a young girl who, in just 12 years, touched more hearts than many do in a lifetime.
Mandla was a bright and kind soul, who radiated compassion, courage, and joy. On August 10, 2019, while traveling with her parents from Fort McMurray to Edmonton, her life tragically ended in a car accident.
Named in honor of Nelson Mandela, Mandla deeply believed in service, justice, and the power of small acts of kindness to change the world. She dreamed of becoming a doctor, a mother of four, and a positive force for her community. Always ready to help, always focused on others, she dreamed of a better, more loving, and just world.
Though her life was brief, Mandla’s legacy is profound.
Today, Mireille continues her daughter’s mission through the Mandla Foundation, with active initiatives in Fort McMurray and Cameroon. The Foundation supports education, youth empowerment, and the fight against poverty — each project reflecting Mandla’s core values: compassion, commitment, and service.
Her light continues to shine — in every young person encouraged to become a leader, every family touched by kindness, and every community transformed by love.
